Avoiding Cat-tastrophe
Avoiding Cat-tastrophe is a paper sample booklet with a witty twist. This booklet employs dry humor to guide readers through a dramatized version of owning a cat. The booklet was also created to physically demonstrate the uses of different lines and weights of paper from the French Paper Company. To best display a wide variety of paper samples I created this booklet to be interactive through both folds and paper items and documents in pockets that the reader can collect through their journey of reading the book. Upon finishing the booklet, the user is presented with a wallet-sized certificate of completion in the back of the book that declares the user qualified to handle any ‘cat-tastrophe’ they come across.
This project was created for a university course and is not affiliated with French Paper Company.

My Approach
I drew inspiration from other fantasy field guides like The Spiderwick Chronicles to put emphasis on the fact that this booklet, while based in reality, draws on fantasy to create greater intrigue. To further mimic the aesthetics of a traditional field guide, I created a series of digital illustrations that draw upon the detailed yet sketchy qualities of drawings created by a researcher who is trying to quickly jot down their observations as accurately as possible before their target notices them.
