Fictionist Publishing

Fictionist Publishing is a fictional publishing company specializing in new adult fiction. Unlike traditional publishing companies, Fictionist includes several custom produced mystery items with each book published, allowing the reader to have a more tangible literary experience. Each mystery package is only labeled with a page number and is to be opened after the reader finishes the corresponding page in the book. Inside each mystery package is a book-accurate item that is mentioned in the story. Potential items could include rings, diaries, gloves, amulets, miniature statues, goblets, and keys. When ordering, you are able to enter your jewelry/small accessory sizes and what kind of gifts you would like (feminine, masculine, unisex). Only interested in the story? Buyers will have the option to opt-out of mystery gifts if they would like to purchase the book by itself.

Branding

For this project, I was greatly inspired by the Dark Academia aesthetic and wanted to create a brand that employs motifs that reference the roots of the publishing industry while still looking modern by utilizing negative space and avoiding too many overly maximalist elements associated with antiquity.

Packaging

In order to create a feeling of suspense and keep costs low, instead of each book having it’s own themed boxes both the mailer boxes and mystery boxes have a minimalistic design and employ the branded Fictionist repeat pattern.

The newsletter is a part of Fictionist’s email marketing strategy to inform customers of literary news, upcoming books that Fictionist is publishing, deals on themed subscription boxes and more. By incorporating non-promotional content in the newsletters, the reader engagement will increase which will, in turn, increase brand awareness.
